Kinderhook House

This 19th century cape had been modified several times, resulting in a patchwork of unsympathetic additions and roof alterations. Our first task was to add a gambrel roof, providing a spacious, airy quality to the second floor. Hand-hewn timbers were revealed and left exposed. The dark kitchen was completely rethought, and now features french doors that open onto a sunny terrace. New finishes and custom millwork complement the reclaimed brick flooring.  The project received a Design Award from the American Institute of Architects.
